Why Hope Will Get You Through Anything

Life is full of twists and turns, it’s easy to become despondent.

Obstacles and adversities show up unexpectedly and we find ourselves out of our comfort zone.

People say life is unfair?

I presume they’re referring to life being unfavourable when things don’t go as planned.

Surely, we’re intelligent enough to know, we don’t always get what we want. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Regardless, one thing that’s helped me remain optimistic, is that not everything will go as planned and that’s okay. In fact, not getting what I want is often a good thing, since there’s often something greater on the horizon to fill its place.

We must accept life will be full of: obstacles, road blocks, negative emotions and circumstances that will derail our best laid plans. Knowing this should remove the burden, life is not pure sailing, but an adventure full of valleys and victories.

If you fear, “what could go wrong next,” you place an unnecessary burden on your shoulders while dreading the worst.

If you adopt a hopeful and optimistic heart, you can breathe easier and expect a more pleasant future.

Hope Has What It Takes

Hope is more valuable than we give it credit for. It’s a soft burning flame, unable to be extinguished and capable of enduring any conditions.

Hope has what it takes to get you through anything.

“People usually consider hope among the most wondrous of gifts: it keeps us going when we want to quit and makes possible victories that seem unattainable,” affirms author Dr. Alex Lickerman in The Undefeated Mind: On the Science of Constructing an Indestructible Self.

Hope is the belief things will work, especially when it seems otherwise. It helps you stay calm and peaceful when something less than desirable emerges.

Hope believes you will get through it.

Hope remembers the times you made it through.

Hope teams with faith and believes in the impossible.

Emotional Upheaval

When times are tough, our emotions are intensified and not symbolic of who we are.

When the boss tells you the company is downsizing and your position is terminated, when your son gets expelled from school, your partner decides they don’t know if they want to spend the rest of their life with you, the doctor gives you an adverse health report or your dog’s gone missing, then your emotions are in for a roller-coaster ride.

But with hope, your thoughts gravitate toward optimism.

We cannot expect life to be smooth sailing. Unexpected conditions arise, not to overwhelm us but to test our inner resolve and awaken us to our true power.

Our emotional response in such times, is not indicative of our true self. That’s because we respond to our external environment instead of staying composed.

Lessons To Be Learned

Sometimes when a situation is bleak, you’re invited to master a lesson greater than you expect. This is when hope will get you through. If you lose your job, there might be a series of experiences during your transition of looking for another job.

You may realise you loathed your previous job and are now more determined to find a career path that makes you happy. Maybe you realise, you want to start your own business instead of working for someone. Consider this something to learn from instead of dwelling on the unfortunate setbacks.

Assuredly, there’s a lesson and inner growth contained within your circumstances, even if you can’t see it yet.

I appreciate the advice from author Jan Frazier in The Freedom of Being: At Ease with What Is, “The reality is that in the interval between the start of hope and when the outcome occurs, you don’t know what’s going to happen. The ego-mind dislikes not knowing. Feeling hope is a way of avoiding the discomfort of uncertainty.”

Visualise A Positive Future

During hard times, do your best to envision a positive future. In fact, what you dwell upon is what you likely will get. Call it positive thinking, though what you hold in your mind is what you will receive.

We’re the product of our emotions, given that we feel our way through life. If your emotions are fixed on negative aspects, you’re likely to attract those situations because of your predominant reactions.

The universe reflects what you put out into the ether.

As an example, if I entertain negative thoughts related to not having enough money to pay my bills, I’ll see evidence of this echoed in reality. I might notice a TV commercial discussing debt prevention or perhaps someone mentions their financial difficulties. If I’m aware, I recognise the warning signs that my thoughts are out of alignment. If I persist with these thoughts, it’s likely to materialise because I’ve willed it into existence, whether I like it or not.

“Scientists have repeatedly demonstrated that changing our perspective and focusing on aspects of the situation that are in our control can have a hugely beneficial impact on our hope, motivation, and self-esteem,” states author Guy Winch in Emotional First Aid: Practical Strategies for Treating Failure, Rejection, Guilt, and Other Everyday Psychological Injuries.

How do you see your future developing?

Close your eyes for a moment and visualise an optimistic path.

It requires work and discipline to create an intentional future and it can’t be achieved overnight. This is because you’re likely to slip into your old ways if you’re not mindful of your thoughts.

Unattached To Outcomes

The world is full of people who have overcome incredible hurdles and failures to become successful and happy. They’re unattached to outcomes because they appreciate that not everything goes as planned. When one door closes, another opens at the right time, as long as their thoughts are in alignment.

Allow life to weave her mysterious ways by being detaching from outcomes. What appears detrimental at first may simply be laying the groundwork for something greater late on.

Commit to a life of optimism, irrespective of the circumstances and raise the beacon of hope when times are tough. You can become confident through your willingness to see life from a different viewpoint.

The next time something doesn’t go as planned, draw on hope and declare, “It’ll be alright, I trust for the best in this situation” and chances are it will turn out as you intend.

Hope will get you through anything, but first you must create the circumstances for it to flourish, before it sets your world alight.

How to Use Fear As a Form of Motivation

Do you procrastinate because you feel fear of rejection, pitfalls and failure while pursuing your goals or life purpose. Fear not as this article shows you how you can use fear to motivate yourself, accomplishing your burning desires.

Here are several tips:

1) Say, for instance, you are attracted to a lady in the office. But you feel fear of rejection. It just requires a mind shift. Think of how happy the lady would be if you ask her out on a date. Think of a bright future ahead. Plan on how you can entice that lady. Work on it and it becomes a game of life, winning her victoriously in the end, which is very motivating indeed!

2) As another example, you want a raise in your job in which you have been punctual, committed and dedicated. You feel you deserve a raise but you cannot proceed with it because you fear that there will be pitfalls in the relationship with your boss. Gradually tune into positive thoughts. If you go through a valid and rational replay of the work you have done, think positively how you can influence your boss to your way of thinking. Will it need a lot of work? If yes, how much. Plan on everything. You get busy in a benign way and you feel the motivation instead of fear to win over your boss to give you a raise. Isn’t that great?

3) You have to offer a presentation for a conference. You are nervous and fear the mishaps that can happen. You might get stuck and forget what you wanted to say. You might drop something on the stage. Stop sabotaging yourself. Turn the fear of failure to loving the presentation that you will offer at the conference. Think how your voice will be heard and how much your research work that you will be presenting will be appreciated. Everything will be cool and set on the stage. Accidents cease to happen. You rehearse your presentation and edit it better and better with the help of your fellow mates and supervisor. In the end you cannot wait to present at the conference. You are highly motivated.

These three scenarios help you to see the real picture. When you feel fear for something, face it right upfront and tune into positive mental attitude. Nothing will go wrong that way. This is how you can turn around timid fear to gratifying motivation for any task – you just name it.

Rosina S Khan has authored this article, exemplifying how you can get yourself to do the stuff triumphantly that you once feared dreadfully.

Success Is As Important As How It Is Achieved

According to Niccolo Machiavelli, “The end justifies the means.” Though this expression has become a maxim to many people, it does not excel the test of an ethical examination. A positive end does not justify an evil means; neither does a negative end invalidate a positive means. Success, an end, is as important as the means through which it is achieved. Hence, the end should not be judged in isolation of the means.

Success should not be considered as something complex, as it is visible in the daily and events of life. Success is seen not only in complex and exceptional accomplishments, but also in the simple and ordinary achievements. It is obvious and evident in the common events and activities of life. This is the reason you do not need to look to far to see success, as it is present in the accomplishment of simple goals you set.

However, different people are exceptionally successful in different fields and in different ways. For instance, while some people achieve exceptional success in sports, others do so in music. Yet, some achieve theirs in academics. In the life of every successful person, responsible people are interested in his success and the means through which the success is achieved. It is wrong and unethical to be uninterested in the means of success.

No one is celebrated as a success by a responsible person (or a responsible society) if the means through which his accomplishments are made are unknown or morally unacceptable. The reason is that the moral value of an end is as significant as the moral value of the means through which it is accomplished. An achievement qualifies as success if the means through which it is attained is morally and socially acceptable.

Success can be defined as the accomplishment of a set goal. Any achievement that does not excel the test of moral and social justifications does not qualify to be success. Every success is an achievement but every achievement is not success. Success necessarily has moral and social credentials. Consequently, it is not just the end (success) that is important, but also the means through which it is achieved. No end can be justified by a wrong means, no matter how good the end may (appear to) be.

This is why the Machiavellian Principle, the end justifies the means, is an unacceptable ethical theory. The end is, and will always be, as significant as the means through which it is accomplished. For instance, being wealthy (an end) is good, but stealing in order to become wealthy (the means) is bad. To say that the end justifies the means is to admit that it is good to steal if it can assist someone to become rich. Indeed, this is unethical.

Even committing such wealth at the service of humanity (by assisting those in need) does not justify the means through which the wealth was acquired. This is why there are some people who are wealthy but are not numbered among successful people (by an objective standard) in the society. Though they have everything money can buy, the society does not want to associate with them. some of them are even disowned by their families.

Such people are not, and should not be classified among successful people because they are failures. To fail in your moral life is to be a failure in life indeed. Little wonder the cash cows who achieve financial success by looting their country’s treasury are not numbered among the rich in world records. Only those whose sources of income are morally and socially acceptable and justifiable are recognised and honoured as rich people in world’s records.
